How to use this DVD

Before you and your child watch this DVD, we'd like to recommend that you familiarize yourself with the information below.

Things to have on hand
A scarf, handkerchief or bandana; something to shake (you can use a maraca, a shaker egg, or make your own shaker using beans inside of a child-safe hand-sized container); various rhythmic instruments such as drums, wood blocks, or tambourines (pots and pans work great too!).

Using the DVD with infants
Lie your baby down so that he is looking up at you. Sing the songs to your baby while you tap on his tummy, or bounce his hands or feet to the music. During instrument play, you can model for your baby by shaking and playing instruments while your baby watches you. You can also tap an egg shaker or instrument on your baby's body so that he can feel the rhythm of the music. During movement songs, you can hold your baby while you spin, bounce and move around the room to the music. You want to create a musical environment in which your baby can hear, see and feel the rhythm of the music.

Using the DVD with older infants, early walkers and toddlers
Once children have a little bit more independence, such as being able to sit up and walk, they will begin to interact with Little Virtuoso DVD's and CD's more independently. Your role is still important. Participate along with your child, and model the movements and instrument play. Show your child how much you enjoy making music! And remember not to physically assist your child with the movements or with instrument play - simply show her by doing it yourself. Most importantly, have fun!

Older toddlers and preschoolers
Children at this age will be much more independent and will actively participate with the songs of the DVD on their own. You may hear your child beginning to sing parts of songs even when the DVD or CD isn't playing. Your role now is to encourage this exploration of music by singing and making music with your child whenever possible!
